Tis the season for colds and flu. Here are some of our favorite remedies to combat these rough days:
First, we take a tablespoon of elderberry syrup to keep our immune system boosted. When we feel the guck coming on, we take an additional dose. Another strategy we use is garlic infused honey. My husband doesn’t mind the taste of the garlic, so he consumes the cloves, but my son and I just enjoy the honey. At times, we also add the garlic infused honey to some tea. The tea we consume during these times consists of Mullein, Goldenrod and Peppermint. The Mullein and goldenrod have expectorant properties to help in expelling the phlegm and the peppermint helps to dry everything up. Another strategy we use is in the form of essential oils. We use essential oil inhalers consisting of a few drops of Balsam Fir Needle, Eucalyptus, Peppermint and Frankincense. When our noses get stuffy, we simply take a sniff from the EO inhaler.
This time of year is rough for many, especially those who are around others who are ill. It also doesn’t help when the weather is up and down like it has been over the last few months. Stay tuned for recipes discussed in this post!
